In 1944 Rudolf Vrba and his friend Alfred Wetzler escaped Auschwitz and dictated the Vrba-Wetzler Report, or Auschwitz Protocols, to the Bratislava Jewish Council. The contents of the report spread around the world. It estimated that nearly two million Jews had been killed inside this death camp.
