How to...
You can place a reservation on any available item on Salford Libraries catalogue, including items which are on loan.
A reservation can be placed on an individual item or on a set of items. If you are reserving multiple items, you can choose whether you want all the items or only some depending on which items become available first.
To reserve an individual item:
- In the box Search by keyword search for the title you would like to reserve
- Mark the checkbox for the item that you want and in the drop down menu under Options, choose Reserve Selections
- Your pick up location will be assumed from your history, you may change this using the Change Location button
- You may suspend the reservation if you don’t need the item immediately, please pick a date if required
- The expiry period is set to 3 months, your reservation will be cancelled at the end of this period. You may change this
- Click on Continue
- If you are not logged into your account, you will be prompted to do so
- You will then receive confirmation of your reservation, including your position in any waiting list, or be informed if there are any issues
To reserve multiple items:
- In the box Search by keyword search for the title you would like to reserve
- Mark the checkbox for the item that you want and in the drop down menu under Options, choose Reserve Selections
- Your pick up location will be assumed from your history, you may change this using the Change Location button
- From the drop down box, pick the number of titles required. For example, you may want items on a particular subject but don’t mind which items, just the first ones available. Or you may choose all titles
- The expiry period is set to 3 months, your reservation will be cancelled at the end of this period. You may change this
- Click on Continue
- If you are not logged into your account, you will be prompted to do so
- You will then receive confirmation of your reservation, including your position in any waiting list, or be informed if there are any issues
If you are unable to find the item you are looking for in our catalogue, you can place a request and we will try to get it for you. A £3 charge applies for this service
- Search for the item you want, when no results are found, under Other Options, click on Place an item request
- If you are not currently logged in to your account, you will prompted to do so
- The Place request form will be displayed. Please supply as much information as you can to help us identify the correct item. You must enter the title of your item
- You will also need to enter a date after which the item is not required and the Library from which you would like to collect the item, click Continue
- You will receive confirmation of your request including any applicable charges. At this point, you may confirm or cancel your request
You will be contacted by the Library when your item is available or if we have been unsuccessful in obtaining the item. You can track the progress of your request or cancel the request using My account. Please refer to the section on cancelling reservations and requests in the Using My Library help pages for details
Cannot find what you are looking for in stock? Then suggest a purchase to us
If there is a title you think we should have in stock then use this form to send us your suggestion.
Under Library Services at the bottom of the page, select Suggest a purchase. Complete the form with as much information as possible and click Submit
Please note this form is only for suggesting new additions to stock. Titles must be currently available for purchase. All suggestions will be considered as part of our stock selection process, but there is no guarantee that titles suggested will be bought, or allocated to particular libraries.
Don't forget you can use our request service (link is external) if you wish to ensure a title is borrowed or purchased especially for you! Please note - there is a £3 charge for this service.
Unfortunately we cannot send individual notification of decisions made, so no personal details are required.
Please check the catalogue at a later date to see if a suggested item is on order or has come into stock.
