    Use calendar
    In This Topic

The Library Calendar specifies the non-due days (when the library is closed and loans cannot be returned) and the due days (when loans can be returned).

To specify whether the calendar is used in the calculation of due dates, overdue loans, fines, etc:

    1. From the Module Menu select Maintenance, Circulation and then General Parameters.
    2. Select the Use calendar parameter you want and set it to Yes if the calendar is used (non-due days are not included in the calculation of due dates, overdue loans, fines, etc.), or No if the calendar is not used (non-due days are included).
    3. Click Save or Save & Close.
Null means the same as No.

    Use calendar (general)

If this is set to yes then the library calendar is consulted for:

    Use calendar for due dates

If this is set to yes then the due date/time of an item will fall on the next available slot after a closed period. For example, if you issue an item on the 4th and the loan period is 14 days then the item would be due back on the 18th. However, if the 18th is a public holiday and Use calendar for due dates is yes, then the due date would be the 19th. If calendar active was no then the due date would remain the 18th.

    Use calendar for overdue items

If this is set to yes then the overdue period is calculated excluding any closed periods. This is typically set to no in a library where multiple branches have varying opening hours to ensure that fine policies are treated consistently.

Say, for example, you issue an item on Thursday 6th for a two-day loan, but the borrower doesn't return it until the 12th. If Use calendar for overdue items is yes then the borrower would be fined for Tuesday and Wednesday, but not for Sunday (since it's a non-due day) or for Monday (since it's a public holiday and therefore a non-due day). Like this:

    Thu 6 Fri 7 Sat 8 Sun 9 Mon 10 Tue 11 Wed 13
Item issued Due date Non-due day Public holiday Item returned
    FINE FINE

If Use calendar for overdue items is no then the borrower would be fined for Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Like this:

    Thu 6 Fri 7 Sat 8 Sun 9 Mon 10 Tue 11 Wed 13
Item issued Due date Non-due day Public holiday Item returned
    FINE FINE FINE FINE
