Select the checkbox to the left of a parameter to inherit the setting from the default policy. Clear this checkbox if you want to change the setting for the selected policy. You can also click Inherit All and Inherit None to inherit or disinherit the settings for all parameters.
To specify when overdue items become lost:
- From the Module Menu select Maintenance, Circulation, Policies and then Loan Policies.
- Select the policy you want from the list.
- Set the Lost period.
- Press Tab or Enter, or click anywhere on the screen to enable the Save options.
- If there are records linked to the policy then you'll be prompted whether you want to update the existing policy or create a new one and deactivate the existing one.
- Click Update if you want to update the existing policy. The records linked to the policy will be updated.
- Click Create New if you want to create a new policy. The records linked to the existing (deactivated) policy will not be updated.
- Click Save or Save & Close.
For example, say the Loan period in days is 7, the Long overdue period in days is 3 and the Lost period is 14. If you issue an item on 1 June then it will be due back on 8 June. The item will become long overdue if it is not returned before 11 June, i.e. 8 + 3. It will become lost if it is not returned before 22 June, i.e. 8 + 14.
