Add see references to an existing authority
    In This Topic

In this example we’ll add a see reference from “Accountancy” to “Accounting”.

    1. Do one of the following.
    • From the Module Menu select Enquiry, Cataloguing and then Authority Search.
    • From the Module Menu select Cataloguing, Search Pages and then Authority Search.
    • From the Module Menu select Cataloguing, MARC, Authority Control and then Authority Search.
    1. Search and find the authority record you want. At the Full or MARC Display, click Edit Record to open the record in the Cataloguing module.
    2. Add a 450 field to the record. This is a “See from tracing -- topical term”. The §a subfield contains the text of the reference (“Accountancy”). There is no need to add a §w subfield as the see reference implies that it is a narrower term.

    1. Click the cursor anywhere in the bottom pane to show the Save buttons, and then click Save & Close.

The Full and MARC Display of the “Accounting” authority now displays the see from of “Accountancy”, for example:

You'll see the Full Display of the “Accountancy” authority if you search using Cataloguing > MARCAuthority Control > Authority Search, for example:

If you search using Cataloguing > Search Pages > Authority Search or using Enquiry > Cataloguing > Authority Search the only link is to the "Accounting" record, for example:
