    Email & SMS parameters
    In This Topic

Email and SMS parameters will need to be set up to enable email notices, welcome emails, SDI emails and emailing saved lists. Usually these parameters will be set and maintained by Spydus Support Staff, but you may want to maintain from and return email addresses, for example. Self-hosted customers may need to update these parameters if their mail server changes.

To set up the email parameters:

    1. From the Module Menu select Maintenance, General and then Email & SMS Parameters.
    2. Set up the parameters you want (see below for details).
    3. Click Save or Save & Close.

    SMTP server/port

The domain name and port number for the server.

    From

The address that emails are sent from. To show an email description, the email address may be entered as 'Library Services <library@library.com.au>'.  This is currently also the address used for undeliverable emails.

It’s probably a good idea to always specify the From field so that the email is not considered as spam.

    Return address

This email address is used as the 'Reply-To' address on the email.

    BCC address

This is a secondary recipient to the CC address field in the notice parameters.

User name, password, Use STARTTLS command and Use SSL connection

These parameters support SMTP servers which require authentication. Not used with hosted customers.

    SMS provider

To be able to send SMS, the library must have an account with an SMS provider.

    SMS CC

SMS will be cc’d to this address.

    SMS email

The email address for your SMS provider, i.e. when you register with the provider they’ll give you a username. This username is actually an e-mail address, and it’s that e mail address you specify here.

The text of each notice is first sent as an e-mail to this address, and the provider then transmits this text as an SMS message.

You must have an SMS provider to be able to send notices by SMS.

If your SMS provider is Telstra, you can register a trial user account for testing purposes. Go to https://onlinesms.telstra.com/login.do?do=display and click the Trial User Account button.

If your SMS provider is Optus, you can register a trial account for testing purposes. Go to http://optus.redcoal.net/Home.aspx and click the As easy as sending an email link.

Once you’ve registered your account, set your online SMS user name as the SMS email address.

Typically it’ll cost around 20 – 25 cents per SMS, so it’s up to each library to decide whether or not to send notices by SMS.
