Check existing loans for reservations

You can specify whether borrowers can place a reservation for a title they already have on loan using the parameter Check existing loans for reservation. This parameter can be set in four places:
- Circulation general parameters / Global general parameters.
- Borrower category.
- Reservation policy or global reservation policy.

No. The RSVCPYONLOAN alert is displayed when a borrower tries to book a title or equipment he or she already has on loan under the selected policy. Staff members can override the alert if they have a high enough privilege level. The transaction would typically be blocked in OPAC by setting Block transaction in OPAC to Yes for the RSVCPYONLOAN alert. |
General Parameters
To set Check existing loans for reservations in the Circulation general parameters:
- From the Module Menu select Maintenance, Circulation and then General Parameters.
- Set Check existing loans for reservations to Yes or No.
- Click Save or Save & Close.
Null means the same as No. |
If your library is part of a consortium then you should also set
Check existing loans for reservations in the
global general parameters.
Borrower category
Select the checkbox to the left of a parameter to inherit the setting from the default borrower category. Clear this checkbox if you want to change the setting for the selected borrower category. You can also click Inherit All and Inherit None to inherit or disinherit the settings for all parameters.
To set Check existing loans for reservations in the borrower category:
- From the Module Menu select Maintenance, Circulation and then Borrower Categories.
- Select the category you want from the list.
- On the Details tab, set Check existing loans for reservations to Yes or No.
- Click Save or Save & Close.
Null means the same as No. |
Reservation policy
Select the checkbox to the left of a parameter to inherit the setting from the default policy. Clear this checkbox if you want to change the setting for the selected policy. You can also click Inherit All and Inherit None to inherit or disinherit the settings for all parameters.
To set Check existing loans in the reservation policy:
- From the Module Menu select Maintenance, Circulation, Policies and then Reservation Policies.
- Select the policy you want from the list.
- Set Check existing loans to Yes or No.
- If there are records linked to the policy then you'll be prompted whether you want to update the existing policy or create a new one and deactivate the existing one.
- Click Update if you want to update the existing policy. The records linked to the policy will be updated.
- Click Create New if you want to create a new policy. The records linked to the existing (deactivated) policy will not be updated.
- Click Save or Save & Close.
Null means the same as No. |
Global reservation policy

- From the Module Menu select Maintenance, Circulation, Policies and then Global Reservation Policies.
- Select the policy you want from the list.
- Set Check existing loans to Yes or No.
- If there are records linked to the policy then you'll be prompted whether you want to update the existing policy or create a new one and deactivate the existing one.
- Click Update if you want to update the existing policy. The records linked to the policy will be updated.
- Click Create New if you want to create a new policy. The records linked to the existing (deactivated) policy will not be updated.
- Click Save or Save & Close.
