Maximum overdue fine for an item

You can specify the maximum overdue fine for one item in three places:
- Borrower category.
- Collection.
- Loan policy.
Here's how they work.
- If there’s a Maximum overdue fine as amount in the loan policy then we’ll use that. If not then …
- If there’s a Maximum overdue fine as percentage in the borrower category then we’ll use that. If not then …
- If there’s a Maximum overdue fine as amount in the collection then we’ll use that. If not then …
- If there’s a Maximum overdue fine as amount in the borrower category then we’ll use that. If not then …
- If there’s a Maximum overdue fine as multiple in the borrower category then we’ll use that.
If no maximum overdue fine is specified, then the maximum will default to $100.
Maximum overdue fine as amount, Maximum overdue fine as multiple and Maximum overdue fine as percentage are applied if you're using amounts rather than points.
Borrower category
Select the checkbox to the left of a parameter to inherit the setting from the default borrower category. Clear this checkbox if you want to change the setting for the selected borrower category. You can also click Inherit All and Inherit None to inherit or disinherit the settings for all parameters.
To specify the maximum overdue fine for one item in the borrower category:
- From the Module Menu select Maintenance, Circulation and then Borrower Categories.
- Select the category you want from the list.
- On the Details tab, set one of the following.
- Maximum overdue fine as amount specifies the maximum as an amount.
- Maximum overdue fine as multiple specifies the maximum as a multiple of the first additional fine. For example, if the maximum is 50 and the first additional fine is $0.10 then the maximum overdue fine will be $5.00.
- Maximum overdue fine as percentage specifies the maximum as a percentage of the item’s value. For example, if the maximum is 50% and the item’s value is $30 then the maximum overdue fine will be $15.
- Press Tab or click anywhere on the screen to enable the Save options.
- Click Save or Save & Close.
Collection
Select the checkbox to the left of a parameter to inherit the setting from the parent collection. Clear this checkbox if you want to change the setting for the selected collection. You can also click Inherit All and Inherit None to inherit or disinherit the settings for all parameters.
To specify the maximum overdue fine for one item in the collection:
- From the Module Menu select Maintenance, Circulation and then Collections.
- Select the collection you want from the list.
- On the Details tab, set the Maximum overdue fine as amount.
- Press Tab or click anywhere on the screen to enable the Save options.
- Click Save or Save & Close.
Loan policy
Select the checkbox to the left of a parameter to inherit the setting from the default policy. Clear this checkbox if you want to change the setting for the selected policy. You can also click Inherit All and Inherit None to inherit or disinherit the settings for all parameters.
To specify the maximum overdue fine for one item in the loan policy:
- From the Module Menu select Maintenance, Circulation, Policies and then Loan Policies.
- Select the policy you want from the list.
- Set the Maximum overdue fine as amount.
- Press Tab or Enter, or click anywhere on the screen to enable the Save options.
- If there are records linked to the policy then you'll be prompted whether you want to update the existing policy or create a new one and deactivate the existing one.
- Click Update if you want to update the existing policy. The records linked to the policy will be updated.
- Click Create New if you want to create a new policy. The records linked to the existing (deactivated) policy will not be updated.
- Click Save or Save & Close.
