To specify whether booked items need to be checked out, checked in or issued:
| No checkout or issue required. You can use this type of booking when patrons handle the whole thing and staff need never be involved. For example, you might use this type of booking for Internet PCs. |
| Checkout required. You might use checkout rather than an issue for material that doesn’t leave the library or for material that isn’t physically issuable, for example PCs. The material is automatically checked in at the end of the booking period. |
| Checkout and check in required. The material must be manually checked in at the end of the booking period. For example, you might use this type of booking for a meeting room where you want to check out and check in the key to the room. |
| Issue required. The material must be issued and returned. You’d choose this booking type when you want to specify the date and time that material is borrowed. Let’s compare this type of booking with a reservation and you’ll see what we mean. When the user places a booking we’re making a commitment that he or she can have the item at a specific date and time, and for a specific period. When the user places a reservation, he or she is added to the end of the waiting list and may or may not get the item some time in the future. There is no commitment to a specific date and time, or that the user will get the item for sure |
| Checkout and issue required. This booking type is used for Book group kits. On booking checkout, Spydus will place and allocate reservation(s) - either to Book Group Administrators, or to individual members, depending on the type of book group. After the booking is checked out the booked kit may then be issued, either as a kit to an administrator, or individually reserved items issued to book group members. |
