Add an eresource load control
In This Topic
From Spydus 10.6 and forward, loading external resources will create an Online Resource (ERS) record. For more information, see the
Bibliographic records and E-resource load controls heading in the
Adding or editing Online Resources article.
Sometimes vendors will supply a file of MARC records containing links to digital resources such as eBooks. These records can be loaded into Spydus using the "eResource load" type.
To add an "eResource load" load control:
- From the Module Menu select Cataloguing, MARC and then Load Control Maintenance.
- Click New.
- Specify the new ID, select "Bibliographic" as the record Type and click OK.
- Specify a description.
- Select "E-Resource load" as the load type.
- On the General tab, select the matching tags, tags not wanted and tags wanted just as you would for a normal MARC record load.
- Set up the parameters on the E-Resource tab (see below for details).
- Click OK, and then click Save or Save & Close.
URL tag and subfield
Specify the tag and subfield which contain the URL . Typically this would be 856 $u.
Linking text subfield and Note subfield
Specify the linking text and any notes if they are used.
Resource type & Default Resource type
This feature requires server version 10.6.1 or higher. |
If an Online Resource record is being created, specify the 856 subfield where the Resource type will be found. If the 856 tag is not used to define the Resource type, the Default Resource type will be used.
To configure available Resource types, see the ERT table in Table Manager.
Location and Collection
Select the location and collection from the dropdown lists. All the records will be loaded into this location and collection.
You might like to create a location and/or collection specifically for your eresources.
Adapter ID
This is used when a vendor requires the user to be authenticated with a username and password before accessing a digital resource. Spydus Support Staff can create an Adapter to insert the username and password and mask the URL so end users don’t see the authentication details. This is an added functionality to the Digital Assets module. Contact your Account Manager for more information.
As of Spydus 10.6, due to changes in Digital Assets functionality, the Adapter ID and Policy access level are deprecated functions, and have been removed.
Authorisation required and Policy access level
Select Authorisation required if users have to be logged into OPAC before they can access these eresources. Specify the appropriate option in the Policy access level field.
- Select "None" if you want to force users to log in to the OPAC, but don’t wish to record a loan.
- Select "Multiple use" to allow multiple users to access an eresource at one time.
- Select "Multiple use (record loan)" to allow multiple users to access an eresource at one time, and to record a loan statistic on the borrower’s record.
- Select "Single use" to allow only one user to access an eresource at one time. This would typically be used for online databases where you have a subscription that allows a particular number of concurrent users.
Bump item
Select this option to bump items that already exist in the database.
